Jamie Kennedy to produce 'Northwood'

Nick Stahl will star in the indie drama

By Steven Zeitchik

July 24, 2008, 12:00 AM ET

Jamie Kennedy is ramping up his producing efforts, signing on for the indie drama "In Northwood."

Nick Stahl will star in the film, a redemption tale centering on a man condemned to a mental hospital for committing murder. Kennedy described the project as taking place "at a moment when you're at a crossroads and have to choose what decisions you would make to survive."

First-time director D.W. Brown, a playwright who was Kennedy's acting teacher, will direct from his own script. The indie-financed project begins production this month.

Kennedy will produce via his Jizzy Entertainment banner. Mike Wittlin and Sandy Solowitz also are producing, with Mike Rachmil executive producing. Olivia Wilde, Dash Mihok and Shohreh Aghdashloo will co-star.

The move is part of Kennedy's bid to ramp up his feature production efforts. He wrote and starred in but didn't produce 2003's "Malibu's Most Wanted," created the Fran Drescher sitcom "Living With Fran" and created and starred on WB Network's "The Jamie Kennedy Experiment."

"I'd like to be someone who produces different things, whether it's funny or scary or dramatic," Kennedy said. "I want to show people I can produce movies without necessarily putting my face in them."
